It was bad enough I’m carrying around 30 lbs of camera equipment when this “Beetle” flies right into my face! Once he bounced off of my face, he… Let me preface this post by saying I’m a bit tired tonight and my humor (or lack thereof) may be a little off. I also may be seeing things that no sane person would be able to see. If that’s the case, just humor me and pretend that if you tried really hard you too… I just got done watering this morning and saw this fella. Come to think of it, these Dragonflies seem to really like it after I water the garden as I’m guessing it stirs up some bugs for them to eat. We finally got some Ladybugs (3000) yesterday to hopefully reduce this Aphid infestation we have. Last night and early this morning they were really feasting on the Aphids. Towards the afternoon when we started to hit a heat index of probably 100 degrees, they started to fly off. Hopefully they will come back tomorrow because… Tomorrow I think it’s time for a new book and I was thinking of getting 1 or 2 on Dragonflies, particularly those in Texas. If, by chance anyone has read any of the books below, I sure would be interested in a review. On the other hand, if folks want to tell me I’m crazy…  It’s so damn hot and humid in Houston right now I think even the Butterflies are laying low. Unfortunately, the pests that inhabit a Butterfly Garden are all over the place, at least all over my place. Aphids. Normally I don’t stress too much about these little pokemon looking critters, but some of my Milkweed… I’m apparently on a roll with critters that are considered pests in the garden or at leasts things I don’t particularly care for when it comes to gardening. I’ve got two more examples. First is a very small grasshopper that was on my Cassia tree which is one of the host plants for the Sulphur…  And every other part of your body is the mantra of this bug. Depending on what resource you read, these are either good bugs or bad bugs. Personally, I view them as both, but if I see them on my Butterfly plants they get squashed. This is an Assassin bug. From what I understand they… I guess I haven’t really paid that much attention to Dragonflies in the past. I know they eat bugs, and I know Martins love eating them, but other than that, I can’t say I know a whole bunch. I especially never really paid attention to how big their eyes are in relation to the rest… If you’re like me, you’ve had a long week. So out of the kindness of my heart I thought I would present you with a little eye candy. Look at the picture below. Look reeaaaal close. Can you spot the insect in the picture? I photographed this guy right around the same time I was photographing the Long Tailed Skipper. It’s some kind of Dragonfly, and obviously Red, but I have no idea of the specific name of this guy.
