Allow me to introduce Mr. Happy, the smiling Dragonfly. It does look like it’s smiling right?

Category Archives: Dragon and DamselfliesI haven’t researched what kind of Dragonfly this is, but I did notice his blue nose, hence the title of this post:-). To me, these are one of the prettiest Dragonflies. It’s a Roseate Skimmer. Granted, the face isn’t that beautiful, but their color (pinkish-red) I think is really nice. In the midst of taking pictures of the Hummingbird Moths, a gigantic Dragonfly decided to fly around our porch light. I don’t have a ruler handy (so if someone wants to measure the size of this thing based on the picture, feel free), but this was one of the largest Dragonfly’s I’ve ever seen. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this particular Dragonfly in the backyard, but he showed up this evening. If the pictures in the book I have are correct it’s a Halloween Pennant Dragonfly. If anyone thinks it might be something different, please let me know Leecy thought this brown Dragonfly looked like a crusty old man. Just a blue eyed Dragonfly. I really love the different variety of colors involved in Dragonflies Remember Bubba, the buck tooth Dragonfly? Here’s his cousin, Wilbur. He’s a little cross-eyed. This has to be the most hilarious picture I have ever taken of a Dragonfly. Let’s call him Bubba. He appears to have two buck teeth. Click on the picture for the full sized view and to really see his “teeth.” Let me preface this post by saying I’m a bit tired tonight and my humor (or lack thereof) may be a little off. I also may be seeing things that no sane person would be able to see. If that’s the case, just humor me and pretend that if you tried really hard you too… I just got done watering this morning and saw this fella. Come to think of it, these Dragonflies seem to really like it after I water the garden as I’m guessing it stirs up some bugs for them to eat. Tomorrow I think it’s time for a new book and I was thinking of getting 1 or 2 on Dragonflies, particularly those in Texas. If, by chance anyone has read any of the books below, I sure would be interested in a review. On the other hand, if folks want to tell me I’m crazy… I guess I haven’t really paid that much attention to Dragonflies in the past. I know they eat bugs, and I know Martins love eating them, but other than that, I can’t say I know a whole bunch. I especially never really paid attention to how big their eyes are in relation to the rest… |
