Category Archives: Mockingbird These pictures aren’t the greatest because I took them at dusk. As I mentioned in a previous post, we seem to have lots of baby birds. We heard this baby Mockingbird calling its mother while it was sitting in our Pussy Willow tree. Right after I took this picture, I noticed another baby Mockingbird in… I apologize for not providing any pictures or updates as of late. I’ll try and take and post new pictures tomorrow. Despite the lack of pictures, I can give everyone a verbal update. The Purple Martin babies (the original 5) all seemed to have fledged now. There are probably 20 Martins flying around every night. …  I’m not sure what this Mockingbird was doing, but every few steps it would open up his wings, then take a few more steps. I’m assuming it was hunting for something as I didn’t see any other birds nearby that it was trying to scare off.  We always have Mockingbirds around here. While perhaps not the prettiest birds on the planet, they often are quite interesting. Besides eating our cherry tomatoes, Mockingbirds also apparently like to eat ants as this one was doing. Having a nice normal Thursday night dinner (pizza of course) and suddenly the doorbell rang. Our neighbor’s two young boys came over with a baby Mockingbird. They said they found him in their backyard so they brought him over to me and ask what they should do. I said just set him down in our… One of the reasons that my backyard is my favorite “room” of the house is because of the variety of wildlife that visits in the backyard.
