I’ve realized that I don’t know much about Cardinals. I can recognize their calls, recognize juvenile and adult, and male and female, but beyond that I don’t know much. I’m an information nut, and if I don’t know something I almost obsess on it until I can feel adequate enough in what I’ve learned. I’ve…

Category Archives: CardinalJust when I start to feel like I might know something, I discover I don’t know anything. Can someone educate me about what the daddy Cardinal is doing in this video? Watch the video at about the 10 second mark. One of the baby birds regurgitates something (poop?) and the daddy Cardinal takes it in… Okay, this is the last video I’ll post for tonight. I just get a little excited over the new things that occur in my backyard. Here’s a brief video clip showing mama Cardinal settling down in her nest to keep her babies warm. It didn’t last long. Daddy Cardinal started chirping that he was arriving… I’ve got so many pictures to share but I wanted to get these BirdCam videos up to yall could see this amazing interaction. In this video, it shows mama Cardinal feeding her two babies, then daddy Cardinal fly in to make an appearance. This may be the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. Let me take a moment to explain. Remember that BirdCam I bought that I’ve been using to record birds at the bird feeder? I’ve also used it to record the Raccoon and the Rat. We’ve known we’ve had a Cardinal nest in our Bamboo, but we… I set up my one man chair blind early this morning to take some pictures of birds. Is this a young female Cardinal. It’s hard for me to tell whether these young Cardinals are male or female when they are still getting colors on their wings and beak. Now this is how it should be. Everyone getting along, males, females, birds of a different feather, etc. However, shortly after this shot, they started picking on each other for the best food. Still, it was a nice thought while it lasted:-). Lots of young Cardinals are around right now, more females than males. These poor birds look rather scraggly when they are young (color-wise). Sunflower seed, it’s “What’s for dinner.” It’s In Here Somewhere Ever lost something and couldn’t find it? I think that’s what this guy is thinking. Here’s a brother and sister, or maybe… This image made me think of the lyric “A Partridge In A Pear Tree.” However, since it’s not near Christmas, let’s just call it for what it is; a Cardinal in an Apple tree:-) Here’s Mr. T (hence the Mohawk), a young Cardinal. I was actually trying to practice taking pictures of birds in flight and if you notice the background, there is an actual bird flying by. Not the picture I was going for, but I think it still came out fairly decent. Today I was experimenting using the manual settings on my camera and trying to take pictures of “critters” in flight. This isn’t the sharpest picture in the world, but I thought it looked kinda cool. This is a female Cardinal heading over to the bird feeder. I have a confession. I think some of my photographs are good, not great, but not bad either. I’m sure from a technical standpoint (color, composition, etc) very few of them are really fantastic. Further, to be honest, I think my camera and lenses do most of the work in making my pictures look decent,… I’ve been talking and focusing on butterflies. But, we just never know what we will find when looking at our Butterfly plants. Take for example, the picture below. I noticed a Gulf Coast Fritillary flying around by the Passion Vine. So I went over to check to see if we might have any eggs. We… |
