Normally during this time of year the Goldfinches have moved on from my backyard, but not this year. Not only do I finally get to see them in their beautiful yellow plumage, but I frequently see them drinking out of my disappearing bird stream.

Category Archives: American Goldfinch I love these little birds and wish they were around longer than a few months of Winter. I don’t know how to really articulate the song they make but it’s such a pleasant sound early in the morning. It also makes great background music when I am enjoying my morning white chocolate latte:-).  I heard the distinct singing of these birds before I actually saw them. Then they did come down and visit the feeders I’m pretty sure the mystery bird is a Pine Siskin  This might be one of the coolest bird pictures I have taken. I had just set up the new Bluebird House with the hidden BirdCam and I heard the distinctive call of the Eastern Bluebird. I ran inside to get some mealworms as I figured the Bluebirds would be coming to visit soon. Sure enough,… I’m now on stage 3 of my disappearing bird stream. I’ve finished most of the actual layout. I still need to mortar the rocks, get a ton of mulch for the whole area, and do some more landscaping. I had delivered 3000 pounds of moss rock, and smaller amounts of river pebbles and pond rock…  I really like these little birds. I like how they constantly are doing their little tweets. I even noticed several at my work today and was pointing them out to one of my colleagues. Then I get to my office and think I have a bug on my shirt and it turns out one of…  Another very warm day today in Houston, and some unusual bird activity for me. For whatever reason, the American Goldfinches arrived today. I counted at least 6. That’s a small number compared to the masses we had last year, but they did appear a little earlier than last year as well. I like these little birds, even more so because they crowd the feeder so much that it appears to intimidate the Sparrows we have.
