Category Archives: Sassafras Our Sassafras tree is really putting out some nice, soft leaves. I was casually checking the leaves to see if any Spicebush Swallowtail Caterpillars were feeding. I then saw this small insect, but I have no idea what it is It was definitely eating the leaf, but I don’t even know where to look to…  I don’t know where they are coming from, but I am happy to have them. I’m referring to the Spicebush Swallowtail Caterpillars. We have lots of Caterpillars feeding on both the Spicebush and Sassafras plants. I have yet to see any actual Spicebush Swallowtail Butterflies, but they’re coming from somewhere. This is the most Spicebush…  I took out the Macro lens to get some closeup shots of these tiny Spicebush Caterpillars (or so I thought?). I thought since they were on my Sassafras tree they must be Spicebush Caterpillars? Could these be some kind of Moth larvae? The tree is definitely Sassafras. Would anyone confirm these are IO Moth caterpillars?…  Do you ever have one of those days when you think you might just know a little about a certain subject then realize you don’t know much at all?
