Category Archives: Places To Visit Here’s a bird I have seen before as they are quite common although I haven’t had one come quite as close as this before. This bird was apparently feeding pretty close to shore and something spooked it and it flew into the Pine Tree right below where I was shooting the Osprey.  Yet another new bird for me, or rather a flock of birds. These are Cedar Waxwings. I saw this flock when I was taking pictures of the American Kestrel. They were pretty far away (these shots are heavily cropped), but still pretty cool to see a whole flock of them.  Another amazing bird I got some pictures of today is the American Kestrel which is the smallest type of Falcon. It was just sitting in a Pine Tree all nice and calm. It posed for lots of pictures and didn’t seem to mind me presence in the least.  Leecy and I went to Quintana yesterday (Saturday) which is supposed to be an excellent birding location, but the weather was terrible. We drove 90 miles (each way) for nothing. It was very cold, very windy, and rainy. I didn’t even take one picture believe it or not. Today I decide to go to Lake…  I take a small field trip to the Houston Arboretum today with the intention of taking some pictures of Birds. I’ll say one thing, taking pictures of birds in this environment is challenging, at least it was for me. I already shared pictures of multiple Queen Butterflies feeding on the Blue Mistflower, but in going through my pictures from the week, I found this particular photo of one Queen Butterfly. For a change of pace, I thought I would share some pictures I took of the Ruby Throated Hummingbirds among the Wildflowers. Before I share the pictures, let me share how difficult this was. Trying to get the camera to focus on the Hummingbirds among hundreds…  Okay, this is it. No more Queen Butterfly pictures for tonight. This is a Queen Butterfly on a Yellow Wildflower. This one is a Male Butterfly.  Are you tired on seeing Queen Butterflies on Wildflowers yet? I hope not, as I really like some of this pictures. Obviously (based on the title) this is yet another Queen Butterfly, this one on a Pink Wildflower.  Once again there were lots and lots of Queen Butterflies. Today they were not congregated around the “Bubba” Desert Willow, this time there were all around this plant called “Blue Mist” (I think that was the name). I’m going back tomorrow on my way out of town to get whatever plant this was. Update. This…  I went back out today to take more pictures of the Wildflowers. I figured if I got lucky, I’d get some nice Butterfly shots, and if I really got lucky, I’d get some Hummingbird pictures as well. Well, I got lucky! This is…  Most of the Sunflowers in the field had already bloomed, but of the few that were not done blooming there were a variety of insects attracted to them. In this picture is a huge Carpenter Bee on a Sunflower.  Here’s something you don’t see every day, or at least I don’t. While I was browsing the field of Sunflowers, I noticed some unusual shape. Upon closer inspection it turns out it was a Praying Mantis eating another Praying Mantis. |
