Queen Butterfly In Flight Through Wildflowers

I went back out today to take more pictures of the Wildflowers.  I figured if I got lucky, I’d get some nice Butterfly shots, and if I really got lucky, I’d get some Hummingbird pictures as well. Well, I got lucky!  These might be some of my most favorite pictures I’ve ever taken. This is...

Carpenter Bee On Giant Sunflower

Most of the Sunflowers in the field had already bloomed, but of the few that were not done blooming there were a variety of insects attracted to them. In this picture is a huge Carpenter Bee on a Sunflower.

Praying Mantis Eating Another Praying Mantis On Sunflower

Here’s something you don’t see every day, or at least I don’t. While I was browsing the field of Sunflowers, I noticed some unusual shape.  Upon closer inspection it turns out it was a Praying Mantis eating another Praying Mantis.

On Vacation In Texas Hill Country

Leecy kicked me out of the house and told me to go on vacation somewhere, so I’m out in the Texas Hill Country with Sascha (German Shepherd).  I’m actually in Fredericksburg Texas at some small cottage. Before everyone starts writing, Leecy really didn’t kick me out, but it was her idea that I go somewhere...

Dog Got Skunked, The REAL Story..

This morning, Leecy sent me a protest email about my Skunk story.  In the interests of “fair and balanced reporting” I’m including her version. Ok, let ME tell you the CORRECT story on the “dog meets skunk”. Sascha started barking at 4:15am, I tried to see if she could wait till my alarm went off...

Summer Ruby Throated Hummingbirds

It’s been a while since I have posted any Ruby Throated Hummingbird pictures.  Also, I’m not really used to seeing Hummingbirds in the Summer, but for some reason we have 3 hanging around. This first photo is a mistake, or at least I thought it was until Leecy said she thought it looked like a...

Dog Days Of Summer Are Upon Us

Probably thought I disappeared, didn’t ya? Nope, haven’t disappeared, just taking a small break. I’ve also been getting home later than normal during the week, and working hard on maintaining the yard on the weekends. Here’s what new or changed as of July 27, 2010. The Purple Martins have all fled the nest. They come...

Passing Of Purple Martin Babies

Sad day for the 4 remaining Purple Martin Babies. When I was letting the dogs out I noticed one of the baby Purple Martins on the pool decking just sitting there.  When I scooped him up, it was pretty clear something was wrong. I called Leecy to come out and help me.  She tried to...

Purple Martin Mother Feeding Three Babies

The baby Purple Martins are really growing! They are starting to peek outside of their nest, and it looks like one of them actually moved down to another nest area. There are a total of 4 babies, although only 3 of them can be seen in this shot.  The one in the middle looks a...
