Sulphur Caterpillar, I Think

While I was out hunting for Butterfly Caterpillars I came across this thing.  It was on our Cassia tree.  This is the plant that the Sulphur Butterflies host on. Normally we just have Cloudless Sulphur Butterflies laying eggs on this plant, and rarely do the Caterpillars make it to the Chrysalis stage because this plant...

How’d You Like To Eat This?

I was bored so I decided to pull out the Macro lens.  I don’t think I’ve tried using this lens with my Canon 7D.  For better or worse, there were hardly any insects that I could find in the backyard.  I decided to walk over to the Passion Vine to see if I might be...

Mud Dauber Up Close

Here’s another Butterfly predator, a Mud Dauber.  We only see this guy hunting for prey (in terms of Butterflies) on our Passion Vine plant.  To give this guy some credit, I think he also preys on other small insects (flies, assassin bugs).

Pests In The Garden

It’s so damn hot and humid in Houston right now I think even the Butterflies are laying low.  Unfortunately, the pests that inhabit a Butterfly Garden are all over the place, at least all over my place. Aphids.  Normally I don’t stress too much about these little pokemon looking critters, but some of my Milkweed...

Macro Photography

This weekend I tried to do something a little different with my camera.  I pulled out my Canon Macro Lens (EF 100mm f/2.8).  I haven’t used this lens in quite a while so I had forgotten that it definitely takes a tripod to be able to get clear photographs with this lens.  I spent alot...
