Normally during this time of year the Goldfinches have moved on from my backyard, but not this year. Not only do I finally get to see them in their beautiful yellow plumage, but I frequently see them drinking out of my disappearing bird stream.

I’ve got lots of news to share (especially since it’s been so long since I have posted), but only 1 picture. Let me start with what all is occurring in the backyard. The Monarch Butterflies have arrived, but unfortunately I’ve only seen 1-2. The Ruby Throated Hummingbirds just arrived today (March 19). There is one…

I’ve tried to quickly look up what kind of frogs these might be, but I couldn’t determine the correct species. If anyone knows, I would love the assistance. I’m assuming one of these is a male, and the other a female. They like to hide under one of the rocks in the bird stream.

It appears I have another new visitor to the bird stream. If you watch the video, you should be able to figure out what type of animal it is

The disappearing bird stream I built is really starting to attract some visitors. In these 4 video clips, you’ll see several Cardinals taking a bird bath, some Eurasian Collared Doves bathing and drinking, and at the end, if you look towards the back of the video where the Hummingbird feeder is located, you’ll see a…

Here’s another new video taken with my new Bushnell Trophy cam. It’s a 2.5 minute video, but it’s really funny. You’ll see this family of Bluejays visit the bird stream to take a bath and get a drink of water. Apparently, one of the Bluejays is quite young, and isn’t exactly sure what to do…

I haven’t uploaded many videos lately so I thought I’d get back to that. There’s also a different reason. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know I have several cameras positioned throughout the backyard capturing whatever wildlife may appear. On some of my cameras, I capture the video in real time…

This is a first. I was reviewing my videos that were taken automatically with my BirdCam that is pointing towards the disappearing bird stream. I noticed a rather large bird sitting in the stream. After reviewing the 3 short clips, I fired off an email to my friend Greg Lavaty to get confirmation about what…

Now they it’s getting warmer and water getting more scarce, my disappearing bird stream is bustling in activity. Many birds are drinking and bathing in the stream, a raccoon comes out at night to drink, I’ve seen a few mice drop by, and the other day, a Western Cottonmouth snake. Normally I don’t like to…

Two birds I don’t often see in the backyard. Actually one of them I’ve never seen in the backyard. The first bird was a Chestnut Sided Warbler. I didn’t think I’d ever seen one in the backyard before, but I noticed I had a post on May 21st from last year that referenced this bird. …

There is a Bluejay who I see daily bathing in the disappearing bird stream. Today my Wingscapes Bird Cam captured several video snapshots of the bird bathing in the stream. I strung a few of them together using iMovie.

So I spend all this money on 8 different cameras, and what camera gives me the best videos of the birds in the bird stream? The Wingscapes Birdcam. Oh well. The Doves must really like it. You’ll see 3 Doves all together drinking and then splashing water on one another. If you watch the video…

Another video to share. This is of a fledgling Redwinged Blackbird (I think) that likes to hang around the disappearing bird stream. It also likes to try and hide under a rock right near the waterfall of the stream.

The bird stream is working beautifully and the birds are using it to drink and bathe on a daily basis. That was the original purpose of the stream so I am happy with that. Where I am struggling a bit is with all the cameras I have set up to record these events, and how…

I’m not sure where I said I was on my disappearing bird stream stage 4, but here is stage 5. The stream is done. I go back and forth about mortaring the rocks around the stream. I need to touch up the area behind the stream, but it’s not visible when I’m taking pictures, so…
