Took a couple of pictures of the male and female Eastern Bluebird as they came down to feed on mealworms. The male traditionally eats first, but leaves plenty for the female

Finally I took a walk around the yard to see what else I could find. I was surprised that I have about 10 little Monarch Caterpillars. There’s plenty of nice milkweed leaves spread throughout the yard so they should have no trouble eating.

Shreela - So many pretties! I haven’t seen a caterpillar or a butterfly around my barely blooming tropical milkweed yet.March 21, 2013 – 1:51 am
Joanne - Beautiful pictures! I’ve seen a few bluebirds here, but not close like these. So pretty. They always make me smile when I see them. Awaiting the return of the Indigo Buntings, another favorite. No catapillars yet.
There is a bird that returns each year (about 3yrs now) and is back, and I never get to see it close up, but has a unique song. It sounds like a canary trill, but I don’t see any colorful birds like that. It’s real pretty, beyond what a warbler does. Wondering if it just ended up with an unusal song of its own. Any ideas? I have a bird book with their songs and none like it in that book.
Bless you for posting these beauties of nature!March 23, 2013 – 4:27 pm
