Eastern Bluebird Babies: Fledging Complete

My job is over.  The last three Eastern Bluebird babies have left the nest.  One left on Thursday at 2:51 p.m. and another at 2:54 p.m.  Not sure when the third one left the nest.  In summary, we had five eggs, all five hatched successfully, and all five left the nest successfully.

I did get some pictures on the day the last three left the nest.  All three babies kept peeking out of the nest and flapping their wings.  That wore them out and they would fall asleep at the nest hole.

The sad news is that I haven’t seen any of the babies since they have left the nest, but the parents still drop by for some meal worms.

Don & Kate - Good job on another successful brood. Those baby bluebirds birds are very cute, and its amazing to see them look like full grown adults. It must be fun watching the babies follow the adults around and get hand fed after they leave the nest. We currently have a brood of house finches following a male around in the tiny back yard of our townhouse, and it is a joy to watch. Keep up the good work, and good luck with the sick cardinal

texdr - Thanks

The sick cardinal didn’t make it. I found it in the yard yesterday. No sign of attack from a predator. I think it was just sick and too weak to continueMay 11, 2012 – 8:45 pm
