I didn’t think it would happen, but it actually did. We have our first Eastern Bluebird nest! Of course, of the 3 nesting boxes I have set up, 2 of them have cameras on them and the one the Bluebirds chose was the one without a camera. Oh well, at least it’s a nest:-).
The Bluebirds built this nest today. Leecy noticed the female Bluebird with some pine needles in her beak. The male then came over to feed her a mealworm (it’s rather cute watching this), and she dropped the pine needles. I told Leecy to go grab the pine needles we had stored for the inside of the Purple Martin houses and place them nearby one of the houses. Sure enough, the female started grabbing the pine needles and building a nest (actually I think the male actually helped with some of the nest building as well).
Now all we need is for the female to lay her eggs, and we should be set!
