Purple Martin Babies Day Seven And New Babies Day One

We have a couple of updates on our baby Purple Martins.  This is day 7 for what we are calling “nest one.”

As you can see they are starting to get a little darker, develop some feathers, and it looks like their eyes are close to opening.  It was a little warm today (about 90 degrees) and I think they were hot so that’s why their mouths were open.  There are still 5 babies, and 1 egg that never hatched.

We also discovered that we have new babies in what we are calling “nest two.”  In this nest there are 4 babies and 1 egg that hasn’t hatched.  I’m pretty sure these babies just hatched today or yesterday.
