Phaon Crescent Butterfly

We have another new Butterfly in our garden that we haven’t had before.  It’s a Phaon Crescent Butterfly.  According to one of my Butterfly books, it hosts on the “Frog Fruit” plant, which we don’t have any (at least I don’t think we do).  It seemed particularly drawn to the Indian Blanket, so perhaps it was just getting nectar and not in the process of laying eggs.

Leslie - I’m pretty sure we had one too! It was hanging out in our butterfly garden visiting the lantana. I have an update for you too. The milkweed seedlings are coming up nicely, thanks again. Our Painted Lady butterflies that we ordered online have done very, almost too well! They have laid hundreds of egg in their popup pavilion BUT not on the ideal potted host plants I provided, but on the nectar cut flowers I added in small vases. I was going to throw those out and replace as needed but the poor eggs are hatching hundreds of cats that are (ick)) small enough to escape the netting of the pavilion onto my kitchen counter!May 9, 2011 – 7:39 am
