Male Ruby Throated Hummingbird Hiding In Tree

I haven’t posted many pictures of the Ruby Throated Hummingbirds lately simply because I haven’t been quick enough with the camera.

We only have two, a male and a female.  I see them daily and I’m pretty sure they are the same ones that have been hanging around for about a month.  I wonder if they have a nest nearby?  I’ve searched in the backyard and haven’t seen anything, but they could just as easily be nesting in the trees behind my fence.  I’d love to get videos of that (unless it’s 20 feet up in some tree, then it’s not going to happen with my level or coordination and fear of heights:-).

This is a picture of the resident male taken in the evening.  I was changing out the sugar water when he came to investigate.  I know it’s not a great picture, and it contains lots of shadows, but still wanted to share.

Don & Kate - That photo is perfectly acceptable, and I like it. We saw our first hummer here in Bowie MD on Monday April 18th, a male. We saw him the first day that we were out for Maryland trophy rockfish (striped bass) season. WE love April in Maryland, and we enjoy your blog. Keep up the good work!
