One, Two, Three Skunks?

Okay, two weeks ago I thought we had one little baby Skunk paying us a visit.  Then last week when I went out to try and get pictures of the Skunk, I discovered we had 2 Skunks.

Well guess what?  Now it looks like we have 3 Skunks.

One is definitely a baby.  The other two I can’t tell if they are parents or siblings.

Oh, and trying to get pictures of these things?  Here’s the scenario.  Open the back door and shine the flashlight out by the bird feeders.  If I see a Skunk, I get my camera, take it outside, and wait 5-10 minutes while the lens gets acclimated to all the humidity we have.  Next I slowly walk over with the camera and flashlight, point the flashlight at the Skunk, adjust my camera ISO settings to 1000, turn on the flash, and then after all that, start taking pictures.  It almost pitch dark outside, so this is not an easy task.

Now here’s my question to anyone who happens to read this blog.

What am I supposed to do to get rid of the Skunks?  I’m sure I could trap them, but then what?  I don’t want to break up this family.

Also, if I trap them at night when they are feeding, and someone doesn’t come until late the next day, they are going to cook in the sun, and that smell is not something I want to deal with, nor do I want to kill them.

So who can I call to remove this critters?  Do I just deal with them?

On a different note, has anyone ever called into work and explained they can’t show up because they stink like a Skunk?  I’m sure I was pretty close to getting sprayed last night:-).

UPDATE:

Just got another picture.  This one is definitely not the baby, and he is definitely male.  Next up would be to determine if he is the father or brother.

Syracusian - FYI: baby skunks acquire their unique scent by the time they are the ripe old age of 2-3 weeks …….so beware. The ability to spread their “perfume” is also at that age. Now as far as removing them from your habitat, contact a professional. Capturing them in your own live trap and relocating them is a hazardous task. Think about it…….I have them in the traps and now I’ve got to put them in my vehicle to relocate them. NOT HAPPENING!! not unless you want to then drive your new truck to the dump for disposal. Well worth the cost of a professional wildlife removal company.
