I saw 3 of these yesterday. That’s more than I’ve ever seen in the backyard. Two of them would chase each other, while the other just laid eggs.
This might be one of the better pictures I’ve taken of a Variegated as she rested on a rock right in front of me.

Ana Goncalves - Such a pretty butterfly, and feels very potent and powerful too. You have a good idea for capturing these wildlife moments. You know that post you left a comment on in my blog post, regarding the photo of the cat. He actually had his eye on a mom squirrel and a baby squirrel as I was feeding them on the ground, but then they ran up and when I saw the cat looking up at them, I knew he was going to jump so I went over to cat and softly pushed him over as I didn’t want him to jump and catch the baby squirrel as he couldn’t get up high to his mom.

isaac - I saw one of these flittering around my passion flower and wasn’t sure what it was. Thanks for the ID! I now see why it was hanging around the passion flower. Hopefully, they’ll munch away at it before the gulf fritillaries do.June 8, 2010 – 4:09 pm
