Purple Martin Babies Make Their First Appearance

Remember how I mentioned in a post yesterday about how Purple Martin’s LOVE Dragonflies?  Now I have more proof.

What you don’t see in the above picture is that 3 of the 5 babies had just stuck their heads out for the first time today to get fed.  Once they got fed, they went back into their house, but one had his butt sticking out the door so the male Martin couldn’t get inside to share the Dragonfly meal.  So this male just kept pacing back and forth with this Dragonfly in its mouth until one of the babies came back out to feed.

The picture about shows 3 of the 5 baby Purple Martins all begging for food.  This is the first time they have ventured so far out of the house.  I imagine they’re doing this because that room in the house is absolutely packed and there’s not much room to move around like before.
