Purple Martins Love Dragonflies

This particular male Purple Martin is the hardest working dad in birding.  He catches numerous Dragonflies each day and brings him to the 5 babies that are nesting in the Martin house.  He rarely seems to rest.  He’s also very protective of the nest, at least towards my dogs.  If the dogs are out walking around the yard, he’ll dive bomb and squawk at them.  For whatever reason, he doesn’t seem too disturbed by my presence as he will rarely dive bomb me.

Notice he has a little baby bird poop on his wings and beak.  No one ever said raising babies was a way to stay clean:-)
