Good news on the Finch, although I guess it was freaked out just a bit.

I too have a problem with Squirrels, and although I thought I'd try a new method this weekend and put out corn in areas away from the feeders, those dang squirrels are completely ignoring the corn.

I may have to just move my feeder further from the fence. The tend to jump from there to the feeder, or climb a plant, then jump to the feeder

I too have flocks of Goldfinch at my feeder.
The feeder hangs from a pole. I have had to smear the pole with grease to keep the squirrels from climbing it. A finch lit in the grease on the pole. Its breast stuch to it as well as each wing spread and one stuck above its body and one below its body.

I went out and carefully pulled it free. I sat it on top of the feeder and it just looked at me as I had my face close to it. I was afraid it had been hurt as it had some feathers missing from its breast. I picked it up and checked it over and sat it down and about 5 seconds later it flew away. It seemed to be scared, but realized I was trying to help it.
