American Bittern Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge

This was the first time I’ve ever seen or been able to get a photograph of this wonderfully camouflaged bird.  We were driving along one of the roads towards the back of the refuge looking for any birds and I happened to spot this guy.  Although this is the first time I’ve ever seen this bird, I must admit I really like it.  I like the colors and the lines of the feathers.  It’s also rather interesting to me that this bird has its eyes perched so far forward on its head.
