Eastern Black Swallowtails Are Back

We’re starting to see an increase in the number of Butterflies we have.  One of the Butterfly Caterpillars that we haven’t seen for a while are the Eastern Black Swallowtails.  We haven’t seen too many of the adults, but they are making their presence known as our Fennel is really starting to get chewed down.

I had the opportunity to take a couple of pictures tonight before it got too dark.  Speaking of which, it’s getting more and more difficult to take pictures after I get home as the available light is pretty much gone.

This first picture shows an Eastern Black Swallowtail reaaalllly stretching to munch on some Fennel.

I was trying to capture the multitudes of Caterpillars on the Fennel but I really had the wrong lens to do that.  We probably have close to 20 on the Fennel right now, although only two are in this picture.
