I’ve got some exciting pictures to share with y’all this weekend. I’ve got some pictures that I’ve never been successful in obtaining before. I’ve also moved to a new stage in my photography setup. You won’t believe what I found to move my picture taking to a whole new level. You’ll either love it, or…

Butterfly and Wildlife Gardening And Photography In Houston Texas
Monthly Archives: August 2009Sorry I haven’t posted anything in the last couple of days. A few of you asked what my setup looks like for taking pictures of the Hummingbirds. It’s actually fairly basic. I tend to set up right by the hot tub so that I can quickly focus on 1 of the 4 Hummingbird feeders (you… I can’t recall if I already mentioned that I purchased a product called the “Better Beamer.” It’s something that attaches to the external flash and it gives the flash more intensity. Anyway, I attempted to take some Hummingbird shots when it was pretty much dark outside. This first shot is rather funny. Obviously it’s the… Just an interesting article I came across today. It talks about the recent data gathered by Stanley Coren (he’s published a bunch of books about dogs) that shows that even the average dog has the mental capabilities of a 2 year old child. The top 7 “smartest” dogs are below. No wonder I always have… I woke up late today so I didn’t get a chance to get some early morning pictures of the Hummingbirds. I did get some of 1 Hummingbird early this afternoon. It was on our feeder by the window. If you look at the full size image, you can see the Hummingbird with its tongue sticking… I managed to get a few shots of the Ruby Throated Hummingbirds early this evening. Based on what I saw this morning and this evening, we have a total of 3 of them right now, and they fight constantly. The background in these pictures is really dark, but I think that actually made the pictures… This picture was massively underexposed, but I was able to brighten up a bit. It still looks a little grainy to me. It’s a Ruby Throated Hummingbird sipping nectar from the Cigar Bush. Lots of Polydamas were flying around today but I didn’t manage to get any pictures of them. I did get a picture of a Fritillary on a red Penta. Got up with the sunrise this morning. Been outside for 2 hours. I think I took some of my best shots ever of the Hummingbirds. I’ll try and post them later this afternoon or tonight. After I rest up, I’ll go out and try and take some additional pictures so check back soon. Oh, what… As promised, here are some Ruby Throated Hummingbird pictures. In these first 2 pictures there was a Hummingbird somewhat distracted by this Milkweed Bug on the feeder. He/She quickly got over the bug and went about drinking nectar. In this next set, I used a little Lightroom creativity because I didn’t care for the background… The majority of yall seem to enjoy the Hummingbird pictures, so I’m going to do my best to deliver. I’ll be posting some of them later tonight (Friday) and all through the weekend, if I have any luck. For those that responded to the “Who Wants To Play A Game” post the other night, I’m… Remember Popeye’s big sailor arms? I think I found his twin in the insect world. I’ve never seen this kind of Praying Mantis before, in my backyard or anywhere else. This “killer” was actually on the garage door. Can you imagine being another insect and running into this thing? I’d just give up on the… Still wondering about the two Chrysalises? The smaller Chrysalis is a Queen, the larger a Monarch. You guy certainly don’t like my rants based on the number of views per day. I think I need to focus on photography and add minimal comments so they more people find this blog enjoyable and helpful. So, how about a game? I’ll see what kind of responses I get before trying it, but here… Let me start off by saying thank you for the comments (good and bad) on the video. For the Gardenia “haters” (you know who you are:-), I understand what you are saying. For those that don’t know, here’s what was said (and it turns out Leecy agrees with them..who knew?). Some felt that the Gardenia… |
