Young Male Ruby Throated Hummingbird

I got a couple of good photos of a young male (see the small patch of red on his neck in the second picture?) Ruby Throated Hummingbird.

These shots are probably the closest I’ve been able to get to these birds while they are feeding.  If you click on the image, you can see lots of detail in the full size display.

Pat - Fantastic pictures L!! I didn’t realize the red part of their neck was so tiny on a Ruby Throated Hummingbird. That’s the kind we see the most of in our yard. We have seen our fair share of squirrels too! They are eating all of our bird seed. We can’t get too close to them though, they run into the woods. The dog, that’s another story, they’re not afraid of her. She’s a big wimp. Stays on the porch when she sees them!August 30, 2009 – 8:00 pm
