Saturday Evening Hummingbirds

I managed to get a few shots of the Ruby Throated Hummingbirds early this evening.  Based on what I saw this morning and this evening, we have a total of 3 of them right now, and they fight constantly. The background in these pictures is really dark, but I think that actually made the pictures turn out a little better.  Some of you have asked what my setup looks like so perhaps tomorrow I’ll get Leecy to take a picture (with her camera) of how everything is positioned so you can get an idea.

It’s still a little early for the full migration, so hopefully we’ll be able to see lots more.  In some years every stand on all of our feeder was full, and there were others flying around waiting their turn (in a not so friendly manner).

These are probably the best shots I’ve ever taken of the Hummingbirds, although I do think there’s lots of room for improvement.

This first shot is the Ruby Throated Hummingbird after it just landed on the feeder.  He/She looks rather regal in this pose.

In this next shot, he/she flapped their wings for just a second after I took the first picture.  Notice the little red (ruby) dot on the throat?

The final shot was of the Hummingbird taking a drink.
