Let me preface this post by saying I’m a bit tired tonight and my humor (or lack thereof) may be a little off. I also may be seeing things that no sane person would be able to see. If that’s the case, just humor me and pretend that if you tried really hard you too can understand where the names and faces come from on the following pictures:-)
Okay, here we go.
I’m really starting to appreciate the diversity of Dragonflies. I had no idea they came in so many colors, and I had no idea that so many inhabit my backyard.
First there is “Sprite.” Why Sprite? Cause he’s green and yellow of course!

Green Dragonfly
Next up is Skeletor. For those that don’t know, Skeletor was in a cartoon, He-Man I think. This was one of the strangest Dragonflies I’ve ever seen. Is it just me (and am I losing my mind) or does this Dragonfly look like he’s smiling?

Last but not least is Pinky. Hopefully you can see why the nickname applies.

M. E. Wickham - Skeletor is definitely grinning, almost like he’s up to something. He’s my favorite!
Great observation and fantastic shots! You have a lot of patience and a wonderful eye. I’ve never seen a pink dragonfly before. Thanks again.August 13, 2009 – 10:15 pm
texdr - For those shots I use a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM for those semi-long distance shots. It’s a great lens but I wish I could afford an even longer lens.
Here’s a review of the above lens if you are interestedJune 24, 2009 – 11:01 pm
noturus - These are some very nice photos. I have tried to take similar pics but I can’t seem to get close enough. You must have a really good lens.June 24, 2009 – 10:43 pm
texdr - Thank you for the nice comments. Sometimes I wonder if anyone reads this, but I still have fun writing and taking pictures even if only 1 person looked at itJune 21, 2009 – 3:07 pm
