Yet more wildlife, but nothing about Butterfly Gardening, what gives? Truth is, we’re experiencing a little lull right now in terms of Butterflies flying around. So hopefully you don’t mind if I share thoughts and pictures of other backyard inhabitants.
Today it’s about the Purple Martins. It seems the babies have all learned to fly now. It’s really fascinating in the late evening as that’s when all these Purple Martins come back to the Martin house. I’m not quite sure how many babies have hatched, but if I had to guess I’d say at least 5 and maybe 8 or more. It’s hard to count them as some hang out on one side of the Martin house, and another group hangs out on the other side. What happens in the evening is that all the babies come back to the Martin house, then the adults come flying in a few minutes later. That’s when it gets rather loud. The babies all start screeching for some food and competing with each other on who will get the next morsel.
Here’s the pictures for the day. First up is a baby Martin who opens up his mouth as wide as can be. Click on the picture for the full size view.

Open Up And Say Ahhh
This second shot is just some of the babies all lined up and waiting for the adults to return to see if they get some food.
