A Now Something Completely Different

Okay, so perhaps by now you’re getting sick of reading and seeing pictures of Monarchs.  Well, good news!  I not only have Monarchs, I also have Eastern Black Swallowtails.  These are really beautiful Butterflies.  The biggest problem I have with these Butterflies is that they are fairly difficult to distinguish from Pipevine Swallowtails.  Below is a picture of a baby Eastern Black Swallowtail feeding on the Fennel (herb that smells like black licorice).  Right now, we have about 5 caterpillars all about the same size.

Much different looking than the Monarch caterpillars huh?

Elizabeth - Very cool little dude. All spiked out and ready to rumble! Can’t wait to see them once they transform into a swallowtail.May 15, 2009 – 11:52 am
