Okay, so I probably have about 60 or so milkweed plants for Monarchs which you might think would suffice quite well while most of the Monarchs are migrating north. As usual, that thinking has got me into trouble. I mentioned in an earlier post about how we quarantined “some” of the eggs from Timothia, and the rest we decided to let nature take its course. Here’s my mistake. All the quarantined caterpillars are doing fantastic, and are getting huge. Now I am running out of milkweed. Tonight we transferred about 20 caterpillars to another quarantine area and left the biggest ones where they are since they will likely be forming a Chrysalis in another day or two. Hopefully Joshua’s has some milkweed in stock that can be picked up after work, otherwise I’m in trouble.
See how many caterpillars you can count in this photo. What’s your guess, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, more than 6? How many milkweed bugs do you see?
